VANKATRAM LEARNING CENTRE
Central Library
         Library is the treasure house opened for academicians, students and Industrial members. The library was started with an initial stock of 4000 books in 1998 and now has more than 45,251 volumes of books on a variety of subjects. Utmost care is taken in developing resources for each department. Our Library Subscribes to more than 774 International and National Periodicals in print and digital mode and has a good collection of Latest CDs & Floppies on various fields. Most of the Library functions such as issue, return, reservation and searching books have been automated

Digital Library

        The Digital Library facilitates access to Electronic Information and library services to ensure that the information needs of our students, faculty, and staff are met. The digital library collection can be accessed through intranet site http://165.165.80.80/lib

Digital Resources
        The collection comprises more than 5,876 CD-ROMs and 2006 VCD/DVDs, as well as audiotapes, video cassettes, and floppy discs. Subjects range from Computer Science, Electronics and Electrical engineering, Mechanical engineering, Mathematics, Science and humanities to coverage of public lectures, Convocation and other college events. Special attention is paid to the collections on higher education abroad, placement resources, resources for preparation to competitive examinations.
        The quickest way to locate videos or CDs in the Library is to search the library Catalog [OPAC]. Do a keyword search by "Material type". Enter a portion of the title, or other keyword information and the Material Type (Videos, CD-ROMs/DVDs, Floppies, Audio) to find the required resource. You can also search by subject for a particular department. The Center has many multimedia systems for viewing digital videos or other formats. The Center provides equipment and expertise for producing digital videos for classroom and extracurricular projects. This includes CD and DVD creation. Our team of library assistants provide assistance to students, faculty, and staff by attending to their needs
Internet Access
1 Mbps Broad Band Internet connections are provided for enhancing the classroom study and for access to the electronic resources. There are more than 70 computer systems available in the digital section to access Internet. Internet will be available to the students and faculty from 8.00 AM to 9.00 PM.
E-books & e-journals
        
        Our library subscribes more than 205 Online Journals, 612 E-Books and has access to over journal, magazine and newspaper articles from international societies. E-Books and E-Journals support the learning and research needs of our students and faculty. In addition, a unique collection of useful standalone online journals and e-books free on the internet are made available to the users in our campus
Higher Education Centre
        It provides variety of resources for preparing higher studies for going abroad. It provides multimedia facilities to the patron on various subjects. In this section, there are five multimedia systems are provided with individual headphone
Satellite Channel
        Dish antenna has been tuned to receive the educational channels such as Eklavya channel and Technology channel. There are two AV theatres for viewing educational channels. 50 students can view the channel program in the library media centre at the same. Programme schedules are updated in our library intranet (http://165.165.80.80/SKCET_library/LibrarySatellite.htm)

        The quickest way to locate Resources of Books, Periodicals and CDs in the Library is to search the library Catalog (OPAC). It also provided with department wise search facility at intranet address http://165.165.79.79

Librarian
A. Fazlur Rahman has joined the Institution as Librarian in the month of July 2009. He is M.LISc., M.Phil and doing his PhD. His area of research is “Information Seeking Behaviour of Students”. He has 14 years of experience in the area of Library Information Science especially in Academic and Special Library Systems.
 
He is the receipent of "AutoLib - Tamil Nadu Best Young Librarian Award" for the year 2009
He was working with renowned institutions and organizations like PSG College of Technology, and Coimbatore Stock Exchange Ltd.,
To his credit, he has been guiding M.Phil Scholars of Annamalai University. He has attended a lot of International / National level Conferences / Seminars / workshops etc., and presented papers

 

He is a member in ALA (USA), SLA (USA), SALIS and ISTE. His area of interest is Computerization / Digital / Multimedia Library Concepts,   Knowledge Management and User Behaviour
He is instrumental in the development and implementation of Library Softwares and technologies like Barcode, RFID and Web based User Education Programme
